Since I've started my business, I've learned a lot about the needs of the people in my community. I meant to provide literacy options to people with visual impairments, via braille, and to offer those options to families. However, I have found that there are many people without visual impairment who also need some help with literacy, and so I decided to help.
Private One Hour Tutoring in Reading
I decided to offer private tutoring, in 1 hour segments. I am not a certified teacher, but I love to read and I'm applying my creativity in my tutoring sessions. After I had the idea to start this program, I thought I couldn't afford to buy the supplies and books. But our church cleaned our our children's library and donated all the books I wanted. So I have books, I have craft supplies, and I am going to forge ahead.
This will be similar to our music class last summer.
Parents or guardians will need to stay with their child, although there is a waiting area they can use. The lessons will be completely individualized, based on the child's choice of books. We will read together. We will learn how to sound words out. We will learn how to look words up that we don't know. We may even learn some braille.

I am willing to work with children at any stage or ability level. The only population I will not be able to work with is the deaf & hard of hearing community (because I do not know sign language), and I know other people who are very willing and able so I will refer to students to them.
I'm the owner of Family First Braille, the author of this blog, and the editor of Family First Braille Magazine.
